Antony Price, Famed for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.

The British designer Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
