A charity drive is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign seeks to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.

A Chance for Support and an "Chart Upset"

Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.

“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”

Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.

“The song holds a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Production History and Featured Artists

The track was produced following a solidarity show held in the autumn. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.

The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a significant sum for relief efforts.

Final Touches and Availability

Lullaby was crafted by a team of talented individuals. The track showcases a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.

The organizers behind the initiative have emphasized that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.

“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a figure explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”

The reality in the territory was noted for its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.

“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”

The song is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
