Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “But I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.

“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
