The second-hand marketplace Members Share Displeasure About Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a different size category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
They have suggested members to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Modifications
Previously, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Experiences
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she said.
Service Background
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
